The goal of Freedom Group is to teach high-risk
and at-risk adolescents about the negative consequences of substance
abuse and equip them to lead drug-free lives.
During 2004, 31.4% of participants who fully engaged
our services met their initial goal of living drug free for 30
continuous days or more.
This program utilizes individual and family coaching
sessions and peer-oriented educational groups.
Each service that Freedom Group engages in described
below has been researched and proven effective to reduce substance
abuse by the National Center of Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).
- Family and individual sessions with a Licensed Chemical Dependency
Counselor, Counselor Intern or PDAP Trained Staff Member upon
request.
- Peer-oriented support groups (3 times weekly) which counter
the effects of deviant norms and behaviors by creating an environment
for youth to interact within a positive peer group
- Structure supervised alternative activities and events.
- A safe (drug-free) place for adolescents to explore their
potential problems.
- Educational retreats (4 times a year).
Freedom Group's methodology to actively build
healthy families and communities by reducing risk factors and increasing
protective factors is proven to produce immediate and long-term
positive results.
There is no waiting list, anyone can call a
staff member and schedule an appointment immediately.
Anyone can also just "show up" at our center
and they will be met by a trained staff member and begin receiving
services.
All services are free of charge.
Empowering people to strive for self-sufficiency
and to obtain their optimum physical and mental well-being is an
ongoing process. Freedom Group provides continuing services to
anyone in need. Our average length of service is approximately
90 days for adolescents. Members may return for additional booster
services at any time.
Our interventions aimed at the adolescent are
designed to change knowledge about and attitudes toward substance
abuse with the ultimate goal of influencing behavior.
Research has shown
that social and personal skills building can enhance individual
capacities, influence attitudes, and promote behavior inconsistent
with drug use. (Bell, Ellickson, & Harrison, 1993; Botvin, Baker,
