Goal #1: Increase Community Awareness of
the negative consequences of local underage drinking
Objective A: Strengthen the existing coalition and
target key community stakeholders for increased participation and
collaboration to disseminate information and increase community
awareness.
Objective B: Collect relevant local information including
police and sheriff reports, emergency room and EMS reports, school
and hospital reports, archival data, district attorney and Justice's
of the Peace data and any other information concerning underage
drinking in Midland County and disseminate media, churches, schools,
students, parents and key community stakeholders. Dissemination
methods could include brochures, press releases, newspaper articles
and radio PSA's in both English and Spanish.
Goal #2: Reduce easy availability of alcohol
to minors
Objective A: Working with the Midland Police Department
and The Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission offices to continue Alcohol
Compliance Checks and publish the results.
Objective B: Increase public knowledge concerning
legal ramifications of adults serving alcohol to minors in their
homes
Goal #3: Increase the adolescents' knowledge
of alcohol abuse and how to make community, environmental and
policy changes
Objective A: Strengthen an expand existing community
youth coalition, providing them with the knowledge, skills and
resources to review, recommend and change community norms toward
underage drinking.
The community of Midland will receive accurate information
concerning the negative effects of underage drinking in both the
Spanish and English language.
Youth and adult coalition members will receive additional
training and education about environmental prevention and social
policy changes creating an examination and renewed interest of
current social policies concerning adolescent alcohol abuse and
recommend model policy changes.
